Description

Celecoxib 400mg capsules are a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used primarily to manage pain and inflammation associated with various conditions. Celecoxib functions by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme responsible for the production of prostaglandins, which mediate inflammation, pain, and fever. By selectively targeting COX-2, celecoxib offers effective pain relief with a reduced risk of gastrointestinal side effects.

Celecoxib is absorbed rapidly after oral administration and has a bioavailability of approximately 40%. Peak plasma concentrations are typically reached within 3 hours. The drug is extensively metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 system and is excreted primarily via the urine. Celecoxib’s therapeutic effects can last for up to 24 hours.

As with other NSAIDs, the use of celecoxib is associated with potential cardiovascular risks, including an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and hypertension, especially when used long-term. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers. Monitoring for adverse effects and renal function is essential during treatment.
