Description

Vicryl Plus Undyed Suture, Braided, 18", Size 5-0, is an absorbable, synthetic, braided suture designed for soft tissue approximation and ligation. The suture is composed of polyglactin 910, a copolymer of glycolide and lactide, which provides tensile strength and predictable absorption. The coating enhances handling characteristics and knot security while minimizing tissue drag.

The suture incorporates an antibacterial agent, Irgacare MP (triclosan), which has been shown to reduce bacterial colonization on the suture surface. This antibacterial property helps inhibit the growth of common pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, MRSA, and MRSE.

The absorption process occurs through hydrolysis, with approximately 50% of tensile strength retained at two to three weeks post-implantation. The predictable absorption profile ensures minimal tissue reaction, making it suitable for a wide range of surgical applications, including general soft tissue closure and subcuticular suturing.
