Thrombin-JMI Powder for Solution 5000U is a topical hemostatic agent derived from bovine sources. It is intended exclusively for external application on bleeding tissues to promote hemostasis. The active ingredient, thrombin, facilitates clot formation by converting fibrinogen to fibrin in the coagulation cascade. This product is supplied as a sterile, lyophilized powder along with a 5 mL diluent for reconstitution.

The reconstitution process requires sterile isotonic saline, yielding a solution with a recommended thrombin concentration of 1,000 to 2,000 units per milliliter. Proper preparation and handling ensure optimal activity and minimize contamination risks. Once prepared, the solution should be used immediately and discarded if not used within the prescribed time frame to maintain sterility and efficacy.

Thrombin-JMI is suitable for use during surgical procedures, including general, cardiovascular, and orthopedic surgeries, to manage minor oozing or bleeding from capillaries and small venules.
